Childhood
What’s childhood?
Childhood is when we are scared of something – of the bogeyman- for example.
When we begin to scared by José de Alencar’s books for example, we are already in adolescence.
Our childhood, we know when it began, but we recognize that our childhood didn’t have time to finish.
It’s in childhood that we begin to abuse of word “we”.
We never remember our first “support”, but we never forget our budding breasts.
It’s just in childhood that we can discover the fruits of our neighbor’s backyard never have bugs.
My cousin Fernando always asked for presents on children’s day. He stopped asking presents after the children’s day when he became old enough to need a razor.
The teacher called the roll: “Maura Cristiani de Moura” – I wanted to say “absent” – but I hadn’t made theater yet.
Game on court. We arranged: 10 turns 20 finishes. Scoreboard says
19 to 19. The Olympic point of victory, I have never forgotten it. It isn’t important to anyone. Just to me. Childhood…
And when other people called us “kids”, we hated them, and we wanted to grow as soon as possible, tomorrow…
After we grow up, even if just a little, how unfortunate it is my case, we discover at the same time as other things that our childhood never finishes. The memories of that time, take more time than the time we took to grow.
After we are considered “adults”, we find out that what looks like cleverness is only ambition and what looks like childishness is only innocence.
